THE Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in higher education has approved Euros1.5m (sh3.3bn) for the implementation of a new floriculture curriculum.
This is aimed at boosting Uganda’s competitiveness on the floriculture market.
“The new curriculum will end the ‘importation’ of labour from other countries,” said Ben van den Brink, the programme manager of Crop Production Netherlands during the signing of the agreement in Kampala recently.
The programme will be implemented in Bukalasa Agricultural College (BAC), Rosebud Flowers, Fiduga Flowers and Mt. of the Moon University.
The four-year programme will kick off in November with 150 students and will run up to November 2010.
The principal of Bukalasa, Emmanuel Ntirushize, said “We are in negotiations with the Ministry of Education and Sports for an integration of the floriculture curriculum into the ministry curriculum,” Ntirushize said.
