PROSPECTS of Uganda hosting the CHOGM Nations Cup next year improved after organisers BIG Ltd met football governing body FUFA yesterday.

FUFA’s executive led by Lawrence Mulindwa discussed the organisation of the tournament with a team from Ball International Group Ltd (BIG) led by its CEO Ben Emmanuel Misagga.

Mulindwa challenged BIG to prove they are capable of organising a tournament of that magnitude.

FUFA have demanded a full financial statement from BIG and also asked them to deposit a guarantee of $600,000 (sh1.1bn) before they are given permission. They are also seeking government guarantees.

FIFA rules state that FUFA must sanction any football tournament that involves more than three countries.

“I thank FUFA for meeting us. We shall give what we can afford but this is a good beginning for Uganda hosting that tourney,” said a beaming Misagga after the meeting.
