Tanzanian Chief of Defence Gen. George Waitara is in Uganda at the invitation of his counterpart, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima.

Tanzanian Chief of Defence Gen. George Waitara is in Uganda at the invitation of his counterpart, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima.

Waitara, accompanied by Tanzanian Chief of National Service Maj. Gen. Shimbo, started his visit on Saturday when he witnessed joint military drills between Ugandan, kenyan and Tanzanian armies, code-named Exercise Hot Springs in Jinja.

He was scheduled to visit the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Bombo, Kabamba military Training School and Gulu district.

Defence permanent secretary Brig. Noble Mayombo received waitara at Bombo, on behalf of the defence minister. Mayombo thanked the Tanzanian leadership for its role in the Burundi peace process.

He briefed Waitara on Uganda’s hopes for the successful implementation of the comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan, a statement issued by the army spokesman, Maj. Felix Kulayigye, said yesterday.

Mayombo expressed Uganda’s gratitude to the government of Sudan for its contribution towards the peaceful resolution of the conflict in northern Uganda. He also thanked the Tanzanian government for its contribution in building the capacity of the UPDF.
Waitara thanked Uganda for hosting exercise hot springs.
