WORLD Cup winning soccer star Marcel Desailly will join Kipchoge Keino and Michael Johnson for a Laureus Sports visit to East Africa later this month.

The trio will visit Kenya’s Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) October 23 and Nakulabye Community Based AIDS Programme (COBAP) in Kampala October 27, all projects funded by Laureus Sports for good foundation, according to Kyra Obolensky of the Laureus Global Public Relations.
Laureus is a project that uses sports as a tool for social change.

Desailly (right), a former France and Chelsea captain, was on the Blues squad that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2000. He also captained France 2001 FIFA Confederation Cup winning team after the retirement of Didier Deschamps.

He is currently a trustee of the National Laureus Sport for Good Foundation in France.

Johnson, is regarded as the most distinctive sprinter in the world, having won five Olympic and nine World Championship gold medals.

Johnson raced against Davis Kamoga in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and 1997 Athens World Athletics final.

Keino is a two time Olympic gold medalist and one of the world’s most admired athletes after winning a gold and silver in the 1968 Olympics, despite suffering from gallstones.

The current Kenya Olympic Committee president is most remembered for starting high altitude training camp for long distance runners.
