CLAIMS by FUFA that Cranes captain Ibrahim Sekagya (right) had arrived in Mali ahead of the team have turned out to be untrue.
Cranes arrived on Wednesday night and did not find Argentina-based Sekagya and US-based Robert Ssejjemba in Niamey as expected.
“Sekagya talked to president Lawrence Mulindwa on arrival in Niamey. We are at least assured,” FUFA media committee chairman Rogers Mulindwa told the press on Wednesday.
All he could say yesterday when it emerged Sekagya was not expected in Niamey until today was: “Sure? Did he tell a lie to the president?”
FUFA meanwhile intends to file a complaint with the match commissioner today over what they claim is foul play.
Cranes have been placed in Tenare Hotel that is still undergoing construction, with toilets and water yet to be fixed.
“The temperature is currently disturbing us. We are making sure that the players drink a lot of fluids and adjust as fast as possible,” said FUFA vice-president Asuman Lubowa yesterday.
But a fatigued Cranes side could neither hold its first training session nor light work out in Niamey, having had their eight balls and four cartons of water confiscated by a stadium manager who claimed the team had been using the grounds illegally.
