Early this year, we told you about Katumwa’s $2m hotel in a bid to cash in on CHOGM. Now we are reliably informed that the youthful entrepreneur recently clinched a $1.6m (sh3b) deal with EASI 8, the body that brings together South African sports equipment and amusement manufacturers, as their sole and exclusive agent in East and Central Africa. The deal will see Katumwa become probably the largest sports equipment dealer in the Great Lakes Region. It will also mean that the man might have to open up a shop in the neighbouring countries. Now, if tabloid reports that the man is dumping his Toyota Corolla Estate for a sh55m sleek monster Chrysler Pt Cruiser, are anything to go by, we now know why.
