COACH Laszlo Csaba has adopted unorthodox training methods to counter Niger plans to frustrate the national soccer team’s preparation.
The team has resorted to conducting physicals in the corridors of their half-complete hotel and in the swimming pool.
Csaba yesterday urged his team to ignore the tactics the hosts have conjured to frustrate Cranes training. Tempers flared when Cranes were forced off a training ground nearby.
“This whole circus will not derail us from our mission here and my boys are thirsty for an away win. They kept telling me they want a win on our way here,” the German coach said Friday.
After the incident, Cranes players returned to the hotel and descended into the swimming pool, where they ‘trained’ for an hour.
FUFA CEO Charles Masembe intends to hand the match-commissioner Andre Badou from Burkina Faso a dossier of what Cranes has gone through since they arrived on Wednesday. It could lead to a fine.
Senegalese referees Diuof Sama, Ndioye Mamadou and Sene Elhadji will handle the key African Nations Cup qualifier tomorrow.
Cranes stand-in captain Timothy Batabaire was also in defiant mood and vowed to teach the West Africans some footballing lesson on Sunday.
“The only way to revenge this untold suffering is by snatching three points from here and this will also be a warning to our group rivals Nigeria that the slot to Ghana 2008 is in our pockets,” he said.
Cranes are still waiting for captain Ibrahim Sekagya (left), who led the team in their convincing 3-0 win over Lesotho last month.
If he does not make it, utility defender Andy Mwesigwa who started at right -back against Lesotho, is expected to partner Batabaire in the centre of defence.

  • Frederic Kanoute has recovered from a knee ligament injury which threatened to keep him out of Sunday’s qualifier against Togo in Bamako, a Mali Football Federation official said.
The Sevilla striker is the joint top goal scorer in the Spanish Liga(4).
