REFEREES - The French parliament has passed a law to give greater protection to referees in all sports from acts of violence. Under the new law, causing injuries to a referee resulting in a work stoppage of over eight days will be punishable by up to five years in jail and a fine of 75,000 euros. Violence against referees has increased in France in recent months.

Kalete wins
DARTS - Ronald Kalete walked off with a bull after winning the Masaka Independence Day darts open Sunday. The URA darts club guru thrashed club-mate James Otim 4-1 to earn the top prize at Vienna Hotel. To reach the final, Kalete stopped Richard Jjingo 3-1 while Otim ejected Richard Semambo in the two-day meet that drew 128 players.
