THE army has halted movement of vehicles into southern Sudan, reports Chris Ocowun.
This followed the renewed terror campaign by the LRA rebels.
“All the vehicles that were destined for southern Sudan today (Thursday) have been put on temporary hold as we try to ascertain the security situation in southern Sudan.
“There is now a lot of confusion and panic among the business community and the general community of Uganda and southern Sudan.
“All precautions will be taken to ensure that the lives of innocent Ugandans are not again lost in the hands of these terrorists,” northern army publicist Lt. Chris Magezi told journalists at his office.
The rebels under the command of brigadiers Dominic Ongwen and Caeser Acellam on Wednesday ambushed vehicles on Juba-Nsitu, Juba-Gambu and Nsitu-Jabuleni roads in southern Sudan and killed 11 people. Several others were injured and some went missing. All the vehicles were set ablaze.
Magezi said the LRA had staged one of their worst terror campaign since the beginning of the Juba peace talks.
He said, “We have been telling the world that the LRA has consistently in the past used peace talks as a chance to reorganise themselves. This is a clear indication of another terror campaign against the people of northern Uganda and southern Sudan.”
