No need for govt, LRA to accuse each other

SIR — I am not happy with the habit of the government and the LRA accusing each other during the ongoing peace process. Considering what is going on in Juba as a genuine search for peace in northern Uganda, a lot still needs to be done.

The people of northern Uganda have suffered a lot because of the 20-year-old war whose background most don’t know. One problem the government of Uganda has failed to accept is that it takes two to start a quarrel and therefore it takes two to make peace where both sides are equal and have equal negotiating power.

The President's recent remarks on all media houses available to him that Kony has been defeated and that that is the reason he is in Garamba are a threat to the peace process.

The President has always said that for the last 20 years and yet nothing positive has been achieved as far as a peaceful resolution of the war is concerned. There is need for the two sides to be genuinely committed to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

There is no need of accusing each other if the peace talks are to be successful.
