STEPHEN Birungi and George Olayo will have another shot at the Uganda Amateur Golf Open before they turn professional next year.

STEPHEN Birungi and George Olayo will have another shot at the Uganda Amateur Golf Open before they turn professional next year.

Birungi and Olayo will compete in the 66th edition of the Uganda Open that has been brought forward to April. The duo was beaten by Amos Kamya to this year’s Uganda Open title.

The stars had planned to turn professional after the Africa Zone 6 championship in April in Kampala.

“I thought it was my last Uganda Open but since it has been moved to April, I will definitely take part and hopefully turn professional with the title,” Olayo said.

Uganda Golf Union on Saturday night resolved to have the tournament in April to attract foreign competitors that will take part in the Africa championship.

Dickson Lagoro, Shaban Lwanga and Amos Kamya also intend to join the Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA).

  • Uganda Amateur Golf Open reigning champion Kamya will compete in the Belville Open in Cape Town, South Africa this weekend.

    Kamya beat Gerald Ayella by one stroke to win the four-day Uganda Open at the weekend.

    Kamya a golf student at North Link College leaves tomorrow for the two-day tournament. He completes his course in December.

    “I will be there in time for the tournament. It’s a very competitive event,” Kamya said.
