THE anxiety that punctuates the dramatic last day of the player transfers has forced the Express camp into hiding their key players.
The Kakungulu Cup winners, who have had just two additions to their squad since the window opened, have hidden U-23 stars Tony Odur and Edward Ssali at a club official’s residence in Mutundwe.
Odur (right) made his transfer intentions clear early last week when he held transfer consultations with returning officer Aisha Nalule.
The youthful forward was close to joining league champions URA FC, while defender Ssali had been convinced in joining Bunamwaya.
“The two have been hidden and will only be released after the exercise has ended,” a reliable source disclosed yesterday.
Bunamwaya tactician Charles Ayieko admitted closing in on Ssali. “To be honest, we were getting him. But we have been frustrated,” said Ayieko.
Meanwhile, Police FC turned the exercise to another level, avoiding the super league fracas as they got four new signings.
While other Kampala clubs are scrambling for big names in the super league, the cops went down to the Eastern region for players from teams that failed to make it through the Eastern Super Mini League.
Police got signatures of two players from Jinja’s St. Jude – Jimmy Kuloba and Arthur Kyesimira and Bugembe United’s Andrew Basoma and Buwenda’s Arthur Kyesimira on Saturday.
The cops are sticking to their tradition of targeting players from the first division and turning them into big time stars. Hassan Mubiru is the most prominent of their strategy.
