Robbers jailed

SIX armed robbers were yesterday sentenced by the General Court Martial for illegal possession of firearms.

SIX armed robbers were yesterday sentenced by the General Court Martial for illegal possession of firearms.
Peter Nabende, Robert Gidui and Umari Jaguba, all of Sironko, were each sentenced to three years in jail while Saidi Byakika and Biral Byakika were each sentenced to two years.
They appeared before the court chaired by Lt. Gen. Ivan Koreta (right) and pleaded guilty to the charges.
A UPDF soldier, who gave out his gun to armed robbers, was also sentenced to one year in jail.
Nabende, Gidui and Jaguba were arrested in Mbale following a tip-off that they were planning to rob Posta Uganda, Mbale branch.
They were found in possession of two sub-machine guns and 11 bullets.
Saidi and Biral were arrested two years ago on their way to a robbery and they have since been in detention at Kigo Prison.
All the convicts arrested by the defunct Operation Wembley that was headed by Col. Elly Kayanja.
