Barbara Asea is the new face of Uganda International Fashion Week.

Asea was unveiled during a short fashion show and cocktail at Kampala Casino last Wednesday. A former first runner up in the Miss Uganda contest 2003, Asea is popular for her beautiful smile and pretty dimples. Asea worked with Zipa models before joining Arapapa in 2005.

The third year Law student is expected to add her charm and expertise to the catwalk during the fashion week this November.
Fashion conscious and trendy people like Dr Martin and Camille Aliker, Joystna Ruparelia and songstress Angela Katatumba witnessed the unveiling of the UIFW 2006 face.

The fashion that showcased only 10 outfits from five designers was, was an indication of what was to come during this year’s fashion week from November 23-26.

The five design houses whose clothes were on show last week were LubegaDee, Latif, Samaki, Paula Butagira and Arapapa.

Hand painted fabric, elegant gowns, bows and asymmetrical lines, and, chunky African jewellery were some of the trends on the catwalk that night. If this is any indication of what is to come from November 23 - 26 during the fashion week, then get your purse out and ready for the event. This year, 25 designers are expected to participate.

Santa Anzo of Arapapa launched the UIFW four years ago at the Garden City exhibition hall.

Its purpose is to bring together Ugandan designers to show case their designs to a large audience. In its fourth year now, the UIFW has been a resounding success attracting the attention of President Museveni and the Nnabagereka both of who have been guests of honour at the event.
