BODABODA cyclists in Ndeeba, a city suburb, yesterday stormed the streets, protesting mistreatment by Police and local government authorities.

Led by Ssemusu Mugobansonga, the cyclists accused city authorities of vandalising their cycles on confiscation over traffic offences and imposing unexplained taxes on them.

Mugobansonga, the spokesperson of the Pentagon Bodaboda Command Uganda, said, “Hundreds of our members are in jail for no sound reason.”

In a statement, Mugobansonga said Police confiscate bikes regularly but many riders had failed to recover them.

He said they demonstrated in accordance to the law.

But the Police, who dismissed the cyclists’ allegations as false, foiled the demonstration that had gathered momentum at around 9:00am. When the police arrived at the scene, the cyclists fled.
