THE Project for Paper from Banana Fibre Production was on Monday commissioned at Makerere University’s Faculty of Technology.
The sh167m project is funded by Japan.
Under the project, banana fibres will be processed into paper.
The technology state minister, Ephraim Kamuntu, said if implemented, the project would curb environmental degradation through the use of non-biodegradable plastics.
Ryuzo Kikuchi, the Japanese ambassador, said the project would boost economic growth at the grassroots.
Prof. Morishima Hiroshi invented the project.
