NATIONAL cricket captain Joel Olweny described Tornado’s second defeat to Africa CC in the Castle league as a ‘setback.’

Former champions, Tornado, ended their three-year league dominance with a 69-run loss in a must-win league decider at Lugogo on Sunday.

“Africa played better cricket and deserved to win. It was a big loss to us and allowing Africa to get off to a flying start in the first 10 overs was quite costly,” Olweny observed.

It was the second time in the league that Africa overwhelmed the former champions. The victory ensured unbeaten Africa claim the trophy that had eluded them for the last five years.

Olweny was however optimistic that his young bowlers, who needed more time to gain experience, would deliver with time. He believes Mark Taremwa, Charles Waiswa and Daniel Ruyange, among others, had done a good job and showed a lot of potential.

But the onslaught from Lawrence Sematimba (62) and Kenneth Kamyuka (37) saw ACC set Tornado a target of 153 runs.

“Had we got early wickets, the spinners would have come and added pressure, but it did not work the way we wanted,” Olweny regretted

ACC has are eyeing another trophy as they play Tornado B in the Luswata Cup final on Sunday.
