THE Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) will on Wednesday start a national car validation exercise to update its registry and weed out forged road licenses.

Laban Muhabwe, the internal affairs and compliancy manager, said this week that there were several forged road license stickers and the move would check the vice.

He said an investigation had discovered various forged road license stickers and driving permits.

Muhabwe said the exercise would also help them know the number of cars in the country.

“Because there are many that are grounded while others left the country but we have no track of them,” he said.

“We are starting with voluntary checkups.

“We encourage the public to take their vehicles for validation,” Muhabwe told reporters in Kampala.

He said to avoid inconveniencing the public by staging road blocks, motorists would be asked to take their vehicles to gazetted places in Kololo Airstrip, Old Kampala playgrounds and Nambole parking yard.

Muhabwe said the law would take its course on those who would not comply.
