A two-horse race is expected when the Inter-forces games resume with a field and track events in Luzira Complex sports ground today.
Hosts Uganda Prisons will be battling to dislodge UPDF’s dominance in the meet after two days of intensive fire at Kigo shooting range grounds.
The two teams that boast of national athletes have been at the forefront in athletics in the annual event that also includes Police.
Anxiety will be high in the opening 10000m race where national stars Francis Yiga, Joseph Nsubuga and Job Sikoria will be in for UPDF.
“We have always been finishing second but this time we are looking at the top. We have had a good build up and I believe we shall do it,” vowed Uganda Prisons sports officer Nalis Bigingo, who is also the coach.
Prisons, who will be basking in home support, will be led by rising middle distance athletes Jackson Kiprop and Augustine Hatabarimana who have been in intensive preparations for the showdown.
Prisons has also vowed to give their opponents a run for their money in relays with a men’s quartet of Jimmy Okello, David Ogalo, Andrew Andabati and Moses Osega.
National track stars Eunice Apollo and Christine Yapsabilla will spearhead the women’s category that also has Deborah Anecho and Adero Nyakisi.
The week-long meet that ends on Friday includes events in football, volleyball, netball and darts.
