FORMER professional boxer Godfrey Nyakana has thrown his weight behind Justin Juuko’s candidature for the UABF presidency.

Juuko, also a former US-based professional like Nyakana, faces Kampala businessman Rogers Dungu and Luke Sekamwa of Masaka in what is bound to be a stiff race for the Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) top post.

The boxing normalisation committee, under Dr. Ntege Ssengendo, has set November 30 as the polls date. NCS disbanded UABF for running down the sport in June.

And Nyakana believes Juuko is the right man to steer boxing back to the former glory because of his experience.
Nyakana who is the Kampala Central LC3 chairman, particularly singled out Kampala property mogul and UOC vice president Dungu as a non-starter in the race.

“Dungu has been around for over 60 years but there is nothing to show his monetary contribution in boxing,” lamented Nyakana.
He also took a swipe at presidential aspirant Dungu’s pledge to bankroll the sport.

“There is nothing one person or money alone can do. Juuko has a good team behind him,” added Nyakana.

“We shall not let boxing go back to the dogs. We (would) rather deal with the devil (Juuko) we know than the one we don’t know (Dungu),” summed up Nyakana.
