Creativity and style will take centre stage when the Uganda International Fashion Week 2006 takes off at the Game/ Shoprite Arena, Lugogo Mall, on Thursday next week.

If the radiance and poise the 25 Arapapa models (15 females and 10 males) showcased at the dressed rehearsals at the Arapapa headquarters recently are anything to go by; this year’s fashion week will be exciting.

Santa Anzo, the Arapapa president, said this year’s fashion week will run under the theme, “Unmistakably Ugandan”.

Anzo said the four-day exhibition has attracted local and international designers. “This year, we want to promote local designers. Barbara Asea, the Face of 2006 International Fashion Week, is a true African beauty,” Anzo said.

A ‘mysterious but prominent’ international fashion designer from South Africa will be unveiled at the VIP Gala night fashion show on Thursday.

At the gala, some of Uganda’s leading celebrities Bobi Wine, Iryn Namubiru, John Segawa, Charles James Ssenkubuge and others, will join the catwalk!

Entrance to the show is sh150,000 per individual for the VIP gold ticket, which comes with champagne and a first-class proximity to the catwalk.

The VIP silver ticket, at sh100,000, comes with wine, soft drinks and second row seating. The same will be accorded to the VIP gold table of eight, who will part with sh1.1m and a silver table that will go for sh700,000.

For the shows from Friday to Sunday, fashion admirers will part with sh20,000. A kiddie’s fashion show will crown the event.

Uganda telecom is the main sponsor. Others are The New Vision, WBS TV, V&A, Sparkles Salon and TEXDA.
