President yet to sign to minimum wage bill

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has not yet assented to the minimum wage instrument, several years after it was drafted, the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) top official, said this week.

“But in the meantime, we are encouraging each sector to set committees to determine their minimum wages,” Rosemary Ssenabulya, the FUE executive director, said.

She said the textile sector was negotiating with their union, the flower sector with the plantation workers union while the Uganda Private Security Association (UPSA) had concluded negotiations with the transport union.

Ssenabulya was speaking at the hand over of air tickets to six long-serving Cairo International Bank employees to tour Cairo, Egypt.

The six have served the bank for 10 year. They are Hedwige Bariyo, Victoria Kawooya, Namitala Kasozi, Bashir Nsubuga, Tamale Sali and Edith Nanteza .
Moona Lukwanzi, the marketing manager, said tour would cost sh18.9m.

She said the workers would visit various sites in including the Pyramids.
