LDU widows in Abim town pelted two women MPs with stones during a disarmament consultative meeting on Sunday.

Abim Woman MP Janet Akech Okorimoe and her Kotido counterpart Margaret Achila received a hostile welcome by the widows and relatives of the Local defence unit (LDU) guards from Labwor.

The guards were killed during the October 29 clash between the UPDF and Jie Karimojong warriors in Kotido.

“The meeting started well but it turned rowdy with some people shouting while others threw broken bricks at us,” Okorimoe said. They, however, escaped unhurt.

She said the group first surrounded the district council hall and demanded that the meeting be shifted to an open ground where they could freely express their views.

“Some of them started demanding to know why we had convened such a meeting when many of their kinsmen continued to die in the hands of the armed Karimojong warriors,” Okorimoe said.
