THE East African Breweries Foundation has given $15,000 (about sh27.2m) to the International Hospital Kampala (IHK) Hope Ward to purchase beds and treatment of patients for a year.

Hope Ward is a corporate-sponsored ward which treats patients from the war-torn regions and accident victims who can not pay for themselves.

It is the latest initiative by the IHK.

It consists of a 25-bed charity wing.

The hospital covered the cost of building the ward and the purchase of essential medical equipment.

Marion Muyobo, the Uganda Breweries head of corporate relations, handed over the cheque to IHK director, Dr. Ian Clarke.

“We are committed to changing lives of the less fortunate and providing hope.

“We would like to appeal to more corporate companies to join hands in enhancing efforts in changing the lives of the less fortunate in society,” Muyobo said.

Clarke (above) was grateful for the support.

“We are grateful for the sponsorship.

“We believe this will go a long way in making a difference to the lives of the poor,” Clarke said.

Nick Russel, the IHK business development director, said the ward caters for traumatised victims of the LRA war in the north and specialist reconstructive and plastic surgery.

He said the ward also focuses on cancer treatment and restoration of the physical and psychological victims of burns and acid attacks.
