CRANES industrious midfielder Noah “Babadi” Kasule is down with malaria.

Kasule will miss tomorrow’s last group match against Somalia. He is also a major doubt for the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Kasule developed malaria during the Cranes match against Rwanda played under chilly weather on Thursday night.

“He was ill and had to be substituted at halftime during the Thursday match. We thought it was just a simple cold but it’s malaria. He’s on treatment,” Cranes physiotherapist Jack Walugembe said.

Emmanuel Balyejusa who replaced Kasule might start in the game against Somalia.

Coach Laszlo Csaba said he would give a chance to players who are yet to feature in the tournament.

Robert Kimuli, Shaka Okello, Simon Simwogerere and goalkeeper Hamza Muwonge have not been fielded so far.

Meanwhile, Zambia which was drafted in as a guest team to boost competition must win today’s match against Zanzibar to make the quarter-finals.

Zanzibar needs a draw to eject Zambia who surprisingly fell to Burundi.

The tournament sponsored by Ethiopian tycoon Sheik Hussein Al Moudi will see the winner take home $35000 (sh64.4m).

* CECAFA will seek
Clearance from football world governing body FIFA and its Africa affiliate CAF to hold the CHOGM Cup in Tanzania in July 2007.

“Our role is to simply provide technical support. We have sanctioned the tournament like any other event in our region. Very soon we will seek clearance from FIFA and CAF to have the tournament staged in Tanzania,” CECAFA secretary Nicholas Musonye said.

The CHOGM Cup organised by Ball International Group (BIG), a Kampala-based firm, is expected to have 14 Commonwealth nations.

The tournament will mark the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which will be held in Kampala, Uganda in November 2007.

BIG, signed separate contracts with Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) and Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) in Dar-es-Salaam early last month.

Musonye said he was not aware of the stand-off between Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and BIG over the tournament.
