Toro Kingdom gets new Premier

STEVEN Irumba was sworn-in as the 13th Omuhikirwa (Prime Minister) of Toro Kingdom on Saturday at the Karuzika palace. Present was King Oyo Nyimba Iguru and queen mother Best Kemigisa.

STEVEN Irumba was sworn-in as the 13th Omuhikirwa (Prime Minister) of Toro Kingdom on Saturday at the Karuzika palace. Present was King Oyo Nyimba Iguru and queen mother Best Kemigisa.
Irumba replaces Steven Rwakijuma Nyabongo who has been premier since 1998 and resigned in November 2005.
Fort Portal resident judge Atwooki Rugadya, who was assisted by Fort Portal Chief Magistrate Obbo Londo, swore him in.
In attendance were state minister for Karamoja affairs Aston Kajara, MPs Steven Kaliba, Steven Kangwera, Buganda Katikkiro Dan Muliika and Kampala Central Division chairman Godfrey Nyakana.
After taking oath at the royal platform, Irumba kissed the palms of the king, a ritual signifying the king officially receiving the premier at the palace.
Rwakijuma hailed President Yoweri Museveni, the king’s guardian, for supporting the king and his people.
Irumba said he would work for unity and help the needy.
