SIR — I wish to add my voice to that of Ivan Mukisa on his letter “Tell me, what is a strike?” published on Friday. On many occasions when there is
disatisfaction and people are suppressed, there is a tendency to resort to extremes to change the course of events.

Over the years, events at makerere have shown that strikes — and violent ones too — force the university administration to listen.

This has in turn led the students and lecturers to assume that the best language the administration understands is that of violence.

very often, in order to achieve peace, there must be an element of war. unless something tangible is done about Makerere, the trend is not about to stop!
