O’level examiners have resumed marking but only after the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) warned them against paralysing the process.

The examinations body has also sent away three teachers who were marking Physics at one of the marking centres, Kabojja Secondary School.

UNEB secretary general Matthew Bukenya on Monday reportedly asked the unidentified teachers to leave if they did not accept the terms agreed upon before the marking started.

A source said they were dismissed with disgrace and will not be paid for the papers they had marked.

“They will be deleted from UNEB’s list of examiners,” the source added.

UNEB publicist Eva Konde confirmed that the teachers had already left the centre but declined to give details.

A source disclosed that Bukenya asked those who did not want to continue marking to leave the centres. However, all the examiners opted to stay.

He also warned them against abusing the oath of secrecy, which examiners take at the beginning of the marking period.

At Nabisunsa Girls’ School, the examiners had resumed marking after Bukenya told them UNEB would consider their concerns by today.

The board’s executive was meeting yesterday to resolve the standoff that paralysed marking for two days.

About 1,100 teachers on Saturday stopped marking, citing poor feeding and demanding a pay rise.
The examiners at Kabojja had put down their pens, complaining about low pay.
