State minister for primary education Peter Lokeris has blamed the finance ministry for delaying the implementation of the rural electrification programme in Karamoja.

He said the ministry failed to endorse a proposal by the European Union (EU) to meet the local contribution towards the extension of electricity to Karamoja region.

He was speaking on Thursday at a workshop on the implementation of the EU funded micro projects in Karamoja region.

Karamoja project implementation unit manager Stefan Kluge said $7m was earmarked for the rural electrification project.
