KENYA professional boxing promoter Julius Odhiambo has attacked Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC) Celestin Mindra for politicising boxing.

Odhiambo’s criticism follows an indefinite ban slapped by UPBC on Big Strikers International Promotions for staging a fight with FPBK.

Odhiambo, of the Federation of Professional Boxers in Kenya (FPBK), is demanding compensation from Mindra for loss of income because of the cancelled fight.

UPBC claimed that the Kenyan boxers were illegally cleared for the fight in Kampala.

But according to Odhiambo, FPKB is one the two legitimate professional boxing bodies in Kenya. The other one is Kenya Professional Boxing Commission.

“In Kenya we have two federations, so FBPK has a right to authorise a boxer to fight in any country in the world,” stressed the Kenyan official.

Odhiambo is claiming for $350 (sh0.63m) as compensation for his boxers from UPBC.
