THE House of Bishops has rejected names of candidates nominated to be bishop of Ankole Diocese.
The two names had been forwarded by the diocese nomination committee from which the bishops were to elect Elisha Kyamugambi’s successor.
Church of Uganda provincial secretary the Rev. Aaron Mwesigye said the names were deferred on technical grounds.
“There were some irregularities in the nomination process and the House of Bishops therefore deferred the names and ordered fresh nominations,†he said on Thursday.
Mwesigye, however, declined to mention the technical grounds.
The bishops met at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Mbale over the weekend to elect a bishop to succeed Kyamugambi (left), who retires this month.
The committee headed by Francis Butagira had picked the Rev. Dr. Wilberforce kamukama and his brother, the Rev. Dr. Grace Karamura, a UK-based priest.
