MEMBERS of Parliament want the President’s office transferred from the Parliament’s North wing to create more space for them.

They said the Vice-president should also be relocated to State house, Entebbe.
Reacting to The New Vision story that parliament was to spend sh88.7m monthly to rent Baumann House, the MPs argued that such money would be saved if the President vacated their premises.

Busongora South MP Christopher Kibazanga said despite several complaints about the shortage of space at Parliament, the President’s Office has refused to vacate their premises.
Kibazanga criticised parliament for renting buildings rather than constructing a new structure.

“This is what we have been saying. Government is doing things without planning. Renting is too costly. For how long will parliament keep on renting this building? I hope they don’t rent that building for 20 years,” he lamented.
Erute South MP John Odit supported the renting move but expressed concern that it was too expensive.

“The president is occupying parliament space. Let him go to Entebbe. Renting is not good as we know government as being the worst customer. I hope they don’t evict them because of arrears,” he said.

Sources said Parliament would rent all the 150 rooms in the building located on parliamentary Avenue.

Susan Nampijja (Lubaga South) said, “Instead of renting at such a high cost, parliament should build a new home. MPs can be patient as they have been.”
Beatrice Byenkya (Hoima) criticised the media for presenting MPs as extravagant.
