THE army has tightened security around displaced people’s camps and in towns in the north to ensure that people celebrate Christmas in peace.

The army suspects that armed thugs may disguise themselves as rebels to disrupt peace during the festive season.
The northern-based army spokesman, Lt. Chris Magezi, on Thursday said: “We have maintained tight security patrols around the camps and roads to guard people from attacks.”

Magezi said terrorists could take the opportunity to attack the town and displaced people’s camps.

The UPDF and the Police are carrying out night patrols in Gulu town ahead of Christmas Day to get rid of lawless people and armed thugs.

Magezi appealed to the public to be security conscious and report any threats to the army or the Police.
He warned soldiers against overdrinking during the festive season, stressing that they are supposed to protect civilians.
