UGANDAN referees Ali Kalyango and Mohammed Sseggonga have been selected to officiate at the Kagame Cup club tournament in Rwanda next month.

CECAFA general secretary Nicholas Musonye announced the appointments on Tuesday and cautioned national associations to comply. The tournament will be staged in Kigali between January 6-20, 2007.

“Football Associations should not interfere with these appointments,” Musonye warned in a press release.

Sseggonga and Kalyango are expected in Kigali on January 3 for cooper and medical tests.

Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Ethiopia have one referee each.

Musonye explained that the tournament would help teams in the region to prepare adequately for the CAF Champions League and CAF Cup which get underway soon after.

The revised fixtures will have Ugandan league champion URA play their first match against Yanga of Tanzania on January 8. URA had earlier been drawn to take on Djibouti champions CDE on January 6.

Yanga and CDE will play the opening match that will be followed by an anticipated thriller between APR and Burundi champions Vital’O on the same day.

The winner of the tournament, sponsored by Rwandan president Paul Kagame, will earn $30,000 (sh54m), the second will settle for $20,000 (sh36m) while the third will take home $10,000 (sh18m).

Meanwhile the inaugural CECAFA Women championship will take place in Zanzibar on October 27.
