The director of the Joint Clinical Research Centre, Prof. Peter Mugenyi, was last Friday honoured in Ireland for his outstanding work in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Mugenyi was conferred upon an honourary doctor of science degree at the University of Dublin. The function was presided over by the former Ireland president, Dr. Mary Robison.

The Police are investigating the murder of a special Police constable who was guarding Sembabule district health centre maternity ward. The regional CID chief, Samuel Edopa, told journalists that Nathan Byarugaba was shot twice in the head on Tuesday night. The thugs reportedly took off with his gun, leaving his phone at the scene of the murder.

10 killed
MASAKA
Ten people, including a child, were murdered in the southern region during the Christmas holiday. The regional CID chief, Samuel Edopa, told a press conference that six murder cases were reported between December 22 and 27. Two cases were reported in Sembabule, one in Kalangala and one in Rakai. Edope also prohibited the burning of tyres on New Year.
