The Democratic Party (DP) leadership is out of touch with its membership, the press secretary to the Vice-President has said.
Simon Kaheru was responding to claims by Mohammad Kisekka, the party branch secretary for Kakiri, that last week DP youth in the area refused to attend a meeting with prof. Gilbert Bukenya. Kisekka was reported to have said the VP was traversing the area, wooing DP youth to desert and join the Movement.
“To show that they are not in touch with their so-called members, they do not even seem to be aware that the people who were invited to the VP’s residence actually turned up and had a very productive meeting,” Kaheru said.
He said for strategic reasons, he could not disclose the number of people who attended but the public would soon see crossings (to the Movement).
Kaheru said the VP represented all people and not only Movementists.
“The clinics he builds, the roads he repairs and the services he brings to his constituency are not for Movement people only. When Kisekka is taken to a clinic in Masulita, his life will be saved,” he said.
