THREE of the outstanding teachers who offered support to school children in the recently concluded painting competition organised by The New Vision have been awarded.
Eva Namanda of Kampala Parents, Teddy Juma of City Parents, Justine of Seeta Day and Boarding Primary School got cash awards of sh100,000 each. The New Vision Circulation Manager, Tom Wasswa, handed over the prizes.
The teachers assisted pupils in their schools during the six weeks competition billed ‘Draw, Design an Advert’ which ended on Saturday December 18.
About 2,000 children across the country joined the competition. They drew advertisements of the sponsors, MTN, Bata and Splash.
The New Vision also gave out sh50,000 every week to each of the winners of the three paintings. The weekly winners participated in the final competition where judges with a background in fine art picked the overall winners.
Barbara Kaija, the Features Editor, said the teachers were being rewarded because of their good work, which in most cases goes unrecognised. She said the children, who took part in the competition were asked about the teachers, who gave most back- up support.
Kaija said the aim of the competition was to harness creativity of the children and promote the reading of The New Vision newspaper by children and also helps advertisers find out how children perceive their products.
