FUFA returning officer David Agong has cancelled the election of FUFA critic Save Our Soccer’s controversial Dennis Mbidde as Rubaga delegate to the federation general assembly (AGM).

Agong called for a by-election in Rubaga Division (January 10), Mpigi (January 11) with similar exercises in Kalangala (January 14) and Kayunga (January 14).

The returning officer however upheld the results of Apac and Busia saying that investigations showed no malpractices. He gave the zone 13 tertiary institutions up to January 15 to re-organise and hold elections.

At a press conference held at the FUFA House in Mengo yesterday, Agong, flanked by his assistant Patrick Okanya, cited a number of irregularities in the nation wide district elections.

He cited a case in Rubaga where Mbidde, an ineligible candidate by December 14 took part under the pretext that he was a Red Stars FC official. A petition by Aloysius Kyazze and investigations had him disqualified.

“They have to re-elect because Mbidde’s participation confirmed that there were ineligible members at the assembly and thus the election was null and void,” noted Agong.

The controversial Mpigi poll, which saw Fred Magumba and Ali Mugaga taking over with FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda allegedly beaten was also rescheduled, though Mawanda was quick to say that he won't stand.

“I am going to stand for one of the executive posts at the AGM on February 5,” said Mawanda.

Asked whether he was the brain behind the petition, filed by G.W. Mpungu, Mawanda was evasive. “For now let us think of the forthcoming elections since that is what is important.”

Though the ban was lifted for both Badru Ssentongo and Herman Kakooza, the latter was asked to get a letter from FUFA before he stands in Kalangala. The two were banned from football activities in 2001 for leading a crusade against the leadership of incumbent president Denis Obua.

The women at long last agreed to have Baker Kazibwe, Winnie Bukenya and Florence Bagunywa as their delegates to the assembly.
