UGANDA Breweries (UBL) has donated 100 water tanks worth over sh50m to the Two Wings Agro-forestry Network (TWAN) women’s group in Kabale, writes James Odomel. Environment minister Lt. Gen Jeje Odongo and UBL’s Dr. Martin Aliker, David Mulira, Chris Emptage, Brenda Mbathi and Norah Odwesso commissioned the tanks recently. “The donation will save women time they have been spending fetching water down the hill,†Odongo said. Emptage said UBL, through its parent company Diageo, had supported water projects in Uganda. “In partnership with Runkungiri Church of Uganda, we funded drilling of 40 bore holes in 2001. In 2002, we funded drilling of boreholes in Kamuli, Iganga and Luwero with the support of Busoga Trust,†he said. UBL’s Lydia Muhirwe, said the women were taught how to make the tanks. Ends
