Eagles set to soar in 2005

IF crowds are anything to go by, Eagles Production is the most popular band on the land.

IF crowds are anything to go by, Eagles Production is the most popular band on the land.

Pessimists, who had already predicted a downward trend in the band’s fortunes this year, after a trigger-happy askari killed a female fan at Gaba beach show on Boxing Day, should have been at Garden City’s basement on Sunday night.

An hour to showtime, the venue, with a sitting capacity of over 2,500, was full. Chief guest, the Inspector General of Police, Maj General Katumba Wamala, was literally air lifted to his seat in the VIP area as frenzied fans refused to budge. Witty ‘businessmen’ sold their seats, for as much as sh10,000, which ironically was what most paid at entrance.

If ever there is an artiste in Eagles Production with an ever-growing fan base, it is Haruna Mubiru of the Ekitooke kifa Nsalira fame.

Together with event MC Meddie Nsereko, they pulled a stunt, which left many hysterical. Rather than stay on stage like other artistes, he moved around the entire basement singing lines of his song Ekitooke to ‘loaded’ couples, many of who splashed wads of cash on him.

On the whole, there was a renewed vigour in performance from all the group’s artistes; Catherine Kusaasira, Grace Ssekamate, Irene Namatovu, Ronald Mayinja and Mesarch Ssemakula, something, which made fervent fans beg sponsors Club Pilsner that the band stages regular shows at Garden City instead of AY Club in Makindye. Over to you sponsors Club Pilsner.
