When I asked Titi about her plans for the new year, her response was instant; “I want to be the best female radio presenter for 2005.”

Titi, who is famed for the Nsonyiwa faaza hit, recently took up a job at Beat FM, where she presents Genda n’omulembe between 10:00am and 4:00pm.

Her show features popular African music and its fan base is students, taxi drivers, boda-boda riders, market vendors and hairdressers.
Though she is firmly resolved on her new radio career, Titi has not given up singing. Already, she has composed the songs for a new album that will be released later this year.

Its theme is love and merrymaking. And it is a spiced-up recollection of her own life experiences. It also includes some of the tales Titi overheard at Kampala’s favourite nightspots.

Music has always been in Titi’s blood. She started off by miming exclusive hip-hop/rap at Victoria Discotheque.

The late Tony Sengo (veteran
musician with Afrigo band) appreciated her voice and took her on as his apprentice.
When Tony Sengo’s Badindaz band split up, Titi joined the Kads Band and released Neesig’ani (Whom should I trust?), which became an instant hit. She later released Makanika wange, Ssegwanga and Nsonyiwa faaza.

Today, she is one of Uganda’s most popular female artistes and her fans cannot help tuning in to Beat FM to hear her sensational voice everyday.

Titi was prompted into radio presenting by another musician, Halima Namakula. She beat Cathy Kusaasira, Sophie Gombya and Prossy Kankunda in the vocal interviews.
“The most exciting thing about my new job is that I make hundreds of new friends everyday, only I never get to see their faces,” she says.

Genda n’omulembe includes phone-in session for fans to give their opinions on issues like AIDS, high taxes, safety belts etc.

Listeners can also send in their greetings live on air. And of course they are entertained to a wide range of Afro-pop.
