The Uganda Football Referees Association is unhappy that a cheque offered to them by former league sponsors Top Radio has bounced.

The association’s treasurer Nelson Mubanda said that the post-dated sh2.8m cheque was to have been cashed last week as part of the sh7m contractual obligation to cater for the referees.

“When we took it to the bank, it bounced. We are going to meet and see the way forward,” Mubanda said.

He said that Top Radio officials had called and advised them to stay calm as the situation would be resolved this week.

The news left FUFA, who still have cheques to be cashed in April, worried after the Christian Life Ministries company announced they would pull out of sponsoring the league last Saturday.

“We also still have cheques that are set to mature in April and the situation is tricky,” FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda said.

* The Super League will kick off on Saturday as earlier planned, NFLC vice-chairman Ahmed Wadriff has said.

Top Radio cut short their three-year sponsorship of the Super League on Saturday, after only one year.
“We have instructed our lawyers to advise on what to do but the league will start on Saturday as planned,” Wadriff said.
