<b>73 dead</b><br>MBARARA — A total of 73 people died in 64 road accidents in the district last year, the traffic officer, Patrick Ewan, has said.

MBARARA — A total of 73 people died in 64 road accidents in the district last year, the traffic officer, Patrick Ewan, has said. He said 190 people were seriously injured due to reckless driving and speeding. Ewan said this recently while releasing the district annual report at the district Police station.

MBARARA — Construct-ion of the sh90m Katojo market at Biharwe, Kashari county is to be finalised. It is constructed by the Area-based Agriculture Modernis-ation Programme (AAMP). The AAMP project support officer, Margaret Tibayungwa, said Biharwe sub-county co-funded the market.

Man jailed
FORT PORTAL — A herdsman was recently sentenced to two years in prison by Grade One magistrate Jamson Karemani. John Baguma of Futibutanga in Karambi sub-county was convicted of stealing a bull belonging to a teacher in Nyakasura school in Kabarole. He committed the offence on October 30, 2004.

Govt gives
KANUNGU — The Central Government has released sh100m to upgrade Butogota-Mpungu road, the district supervisor of works, Denis Magezi, recently said. He said the district intended to open new roads to enable farmers to transport their produce to the markets.

Sh36m boost
KABALE — grants worth sh36m have been given out to 12 savings and credit societies in south western Uganda. The Uganda Co-operative Alliance offered the money. The coordinator, Fred Ahimbisibwe, on Wednesday said the beneficiary districts were Kabale, Ntungamo, Rukungiri and Kanungu.
