Suspected Kenya Turkana cattle raiders have killed two people and taken over 200 head of cattle in two separate incidents in Matheniko county, Moroto district, writes Nathan Etengu.
The commanding officer of the UPDF 3rd division, Col. Silver Kayemba and the MP for Matheniko county, Sam Pirir Abura, said the latest attack was on Saturday when the Turkana killed one girl and injured two others.
“The girls were looking for building reeds when they were attacked by eight armed Turkana,” Abura said. He said one of the girls bled to death but he rushed the injured two to Moroto hospital.
Kayemba said the Turkana had earlier raided over 200 head of cattle from the Matheniko, purportedly to avenge a Turkana herdsman killed by the Matheniko.
Abura said one pastoralist was killed during the raid.
“I am informed that when the negotiation failed, the Turkana decided to grab the cows,” he said.
