THE contested Bakonzo-Bamba cultural leader, Charles Wesley Mumbere, has said there was no real controversy over the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (Rwenzururu Kingdom).
Mumbere was meeting a delegation of Abakunda clan on Monday at his residence on Kyebambe Road in Kasese town.
A statement from his palace said the so-called controversy was a creation of some well-placed government detractors.
Mumbere did not, however, name the government detractors.
The National Political Commissar, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, vehemently said he would fight Mumbere and the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu.
Mumbere appealed to his supporters to remain calm as the Government sorts out the crisis.
He assured them that he would support the role played by the women.
The Abakunda, one of the 14 Bakonzo clans in the Rwenzori region, pledged their support and allegiance to Mumbere.
A member of the delegation, Edson Bomenze, appealed to Mumbere to stand firm and fulfil his late father, Isaya Mukirania’s, objectives.
Mukirania died in 1966 during the Rwenzururu Freedom Movement war that he started to “liberate the Bakonzo and Bamba from the then Toro kingdom oppression.”
