THE Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) have asked the Police to arrest and prosecute Makindye east MP Michael Mabikke and Mukasa Mbidde over activities of their youth brigade.

In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala and signed by UYD secretary general Derek Mutema, UYD also wants also asked that the members of the group who assaulted UYD members and destroyed their property be charged as well.

“In the name of justice and to save the image of the Uganda police force, we request you to prosecute people who have admitted to having commanded the thugs otherwise known as ‘the youth brigade,’ such as Hon. Mabikke, who even wrote a document indicating that such thuggery had been pre-planned by him”, Mutema said in the letter.

He added, “I was assaulted in the full view of police officers, including the O/C of Old Kampala Police station, who did nothing except look on and entertain arguments from the criminals.”

He said the police officers should also be disciplined, adding that the people who were arrested, were released before they recorded statements.

The youth brigade, led by Mabikke and Mbidde, allegedly gate-crashed UYD’s 9th anniversary celebrations at Pope Paul memorial centre in Rubaga last month.
