SC VILLA will not be able to field right winger Phillip Ssozi on Sunday because their efforts to get official transfer papers and a CAF licence this week hit a dead end.
Whereas Ssozi had been put on Villa’s official list for CAF licences last month, the continental governing body had advised that an International Transfer Certificate (ITC) be sought first from Serbian club Srem FC. Ssozi has been at Srem for the past year.
“It is true Ssozi is with us but may not play as we have not yet received his ITC,†club secretary Luyimbazi Mugalu said.
CAF told FUFA to get Ssozi a provisional licence to play locally for Villa at the end of this month, if Srem do not respond and thereafter seek a CAF licence.
“We contacted them(Serbian FA) over the matter but we are waiting for a response,†FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda said.
SC Villa play Eritrean side Adulis at Mandela stadium on Sunday in the MTN African Champions League.
Meanwhile, another former Villa player, Kenyan Bernard Mwalala, is also back from an attempt at professionalism in Serbia.
