Mariam Alonyi, the gospel artiste who was nominated for a PAM award last year
Alonyi fundraising show on
Mariam Alonyi, the gospel artiste who was nominated for a PAM award last year, will host a fundraising concert at Kampala Pentecostal Church on January 30. She hopes to raise funds for her third album and video, which she will release later this year. Entrance will be free. But pledges and offerings will be accepted indoors.
Her last two albums have been quite successful on the local scene. Praising the Lord was nominated Best Gospel Single at last year’s PAM awards. In Nimaro, her first album, Alonyi takes the indigenous gospel tracks and turns them into modern records. The album features Luganda, Kiswahili, Luo and English lyrics, accompanied by exciting dance rhythms.
Mesach to launch album
MESACH Semakula of Eagles’ Production is set to launch his new album Abakazi abaguma (Patient women). The MTN/Nile special-sponsored concert will take place at Hotel Africana today.
Artistes to perform include Sheila Nvannungi, Mariam Ndagire, Paul Kafeero, Ragga Dee (king of dance hall reggae) and the entire Eagles’ Production. Entry fee is sh10,000 and sh20,000 (VIPs).
Reggae concert at Sabrina’s
A REGGAE music concert that will bring together different local reggae artistes is to take place at Kampala’s Sabrina’s Pub tonight starting 8:00pm.
The show dubbed One Love, 2005 is to feature DJ Ras Nesta, Ras Brown, Jeckaki Entertainment, Natty Dread, Chido Explosion and Mack El Sambo band from Democratic Republic of Congo.
Jeckaki Entertainment is a group of four young upcoming artistes with amazing musical prowess. Since 2003, they have composed songs and given accompaniment to famous local artistes.
Ras Brown and Ras Nesta are some of the core artistes that form Ras Clan Entertainment. They have a five-year experience in music of all genres.
The organisers of the concert include Alliance Francaise, the French embassy, Ras Clan and Sabrina’s Pub. Entry fee is sh5,000 and sh3,000 for Alliance Francaise members.
Bakayimbira in drama feast
BAKAYIMBIRA Dramactors are to stage a number of their old and new plays at the National Theatre, on weekends throughout February. The group’s actors Charles Ssenkubuge ‘Siasa,’ Andrew Benon Kibuuka and ‘Bishop’ Aloysius Matovu Joy will be on stage. The plays to be staged are Lubaale Mubbe (February 4, 5 and 6), Kiwajja (February 11, 12 and 13) Embaga Ya Kony (February 18, 19 and 20) and Ekiry’atabaala (February 25, 26 and 27).
