HEADTEACHERS who do not perform risk losing their jobs, the Tororo district education (DEO) officer has said.

Yona Doya Gamusi said, “The Ministry of Education set rules and principles guiding schools, with effect from January 31. A headteacher who will not perform will be removed from office instantly and without notice,” Gamusi said.

He said this on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Primary Leaving Examination candidates of 2004 for Mulagi Integrated Primary School.

Gamusi applauded the school for being the best in the district and asked other schools to emulate the spirit of teamwork and determination by the teachers, students and parents.

He advised all headteachers to make attendance registers for their teachers and draft lesson plans and teaching aids to enable students understand.

Gamusi warned parents against transferring children to different schools, saying this would affect their performance in national examinations as new environments would not favour some students.

He said parents should allow their children to stay in school instead of keeping them in rice farms to chase birds.

He said academic standards in Tororo district had declined since the Ministry of Education became strict on examination malpractices.
The headmaster, Joseph Owor, said the school had 39 candidates, of whom seven passed in division One and 32 in division two.
