BRITISH High Commissioner Adam Wood is expected to feature for the Bagurusi XI in a friendly tie against the visiting Nomads CC at Lugogo grass wicket today.

The UK-based side, that arrived in the country on Monday, will become the first foreign team to play on the new grass wicket at Lugogo. The wicket was officially unveiled by Castle Lager, sponsors of the national league in December.

National Council of Sports administrative secretary Justine Ligyalingi, Simba Telecom’s Eric Van Veen and Uganda Cricket Association chairman Latimer Mukasa, will back Wood.

The Nomads, captained by Michael Blumberg, played three matches in Kenya against different select sides last week and could be in top form when come against their hosts.

The veteran side will on Friday play against the national U-19 team currently preparing for the regional World Cup qualifiers set for Zambia in July before meeting another side of the Bagurusi XI on Sunday.

Media CC captain Ronnie Kintu and Kololo HS’ Edward Nyakana will be Nomads’ guest players.

Fred Isabirye, meanwhile, rose to the occasion with a seven-wicket haul during a trial match for the national team at Lugogo on Saturday.

The right arm bowler was on top of his form, picking three wickets in one of his ten overs as Olweny XI beat Legesi XI by five wickets.
The match had bowlers Charles Waiswa, Frank Nsubuga and Emmanuel Isaaneez returned good figures.
